NWYMCA TT League: League Rules

The rules are the same as ITTF rules, with the following emphasis/relaxations:

a) The service rules will be enforced. This is to encourage everyone to learn to serve properly which will make entry into USATT tournaments much easier (see below).

b) The two-color rule is relaxed. As long as both sides have similar characteristics they can be the same color. This will allow members to experiment with different rubber without worrying about impact on league matches.

c) No timeouts (except for injury). Since active coaching is encouraged there is no need for timeouts.

d) ITTF rules limit towelling off to every 6 points. We have no restriction, but the flow of the game should not be hindered.

e) A player may change their racket between games.

Here are the simplified steps for a legal serve:
  1. Hand open, flat, horizontal, stationary and above the table
  2. Ball stationary in palm of hand
  3. Ball tossed vertically six inches or more
  4. Ball hit on descent in a fashion that is not hidden from the opponent
