Teams are formed and a schedule has been made that has each team play every other team once. We will end the season with a multi-night team tournament of a format to be determined by the League Committee. The length of the season is determined by how fast the matches are played, but is no longer in weeks than the number of teams we have.
The schedule is loose in the sense that we don't specify the exact night when a match has to occur. However, each team match must be completed in only one playing session.
For teams with three members, all three teammates can participate on the same night by designating one player as doubles only. Also, having three players on a team helps minimize scheduling problems. However, we're not going to be fanatical about scheduling, so two person teams are OK.
League matches must start early enough to give a reasonable chance of completion on that night. Later in the season we may be able to specify a latest possible starting time.
A team match should only occupy one table. However, late in the playing session, and when under time pressure to finish, if there are clearly open tables then the match can spill over to an unoccupied table, anywhere in the club. However, there should be no pressure on non-participants to give up a table to help complete a league match. If a league match is started on time then there should be plenty of time to finish it before time runs out.
Team members in a league match should not play on any table other than their claimed league table. One goal of the league is to help everyone improve. So, the non-player should be watching his/her teammate play and offer help and/or encouragement. Unlike ITTF/USATT matches, active coaching is permitted.
The exception to the above is the possibly third team member designated as "doubles only" for a particular league match. That player is free to play on other tables, although s/he must report immediately when the doubles match is due to start.
For future league seasons: People can form their own teams, but any team can be vetoed by the League Committee. Unattached players will be formed into teams by the League Committee with the goal of forming as balanced teams as possible.
