Hey Rob. I definitely appreciate all the videos you are posting - they really help non-US players get an idea of ratings levels.

Would it be possible for you (at least in some cases) to upload individual games instead of whole matches? The reason I ask is that it is not always possible to download 100MB files, but smaller ones (e.g. 10MB) ones are more accessible.

Thanks for letting me know.  Sometimes I wonder if anyone has looked and something I've posted.  Knowing one person has seen it makes the effort worthwhile for me.

> they really help non-US players get an idea of ratings levels.

Note that the current ratings on this webpage are Ratings Central ratings and not USATT ratings.  The level is similar, but a linear equivalence doesn't exist.

In many cases I prefer the individual game format that you're requesting.  One of the main reasons I'm doing the entire match is it's much easier to get up in a timely manner.  There's less work involved and fewer mistakes for me to make.

If there is something in particular that you'd like to see a single game break down on, please let me know and I'll make an effort to provide it.

Once I've got the entire match saved, it's really not too difficult to split it up into single games as requested.

There are several matches that I have posted now with single game breaks.

Dave Meany asked me to give him a break down of his "Dive Rally" which is now on his match's webpage at:

http://tt.mainstreet.net/ttoutpost/Dave_Meany_vs_Michael_Shieh_Arizona_Closed.htm

Another option is for me to reduce the quality of the video so the file size will be smaller.

I've watched at least parts of a whole bunch of them.

Regardless of the exact rating scale, it gives the non-US crowd some idea of what 1500 or 2000 means, which is very useful information in many discussions on this forum. I have also had discussions with fellow Aussies who read this forum who have been pleased to learn (from the videos you posted) what standard the different ratings equate to.

Perhaps, if it isn't too much trouble, you could post a sample from each of the matches. I wouldn't expect you to do edited highlights, but maybe it would be possible to somtimes upload a game or half-game section (under 20MB) that doesn't have too much non-playing time in it.

Yep, I have seen quite a few of these and appreciate them since I can sample without massive downloads.

Is there something wrong with his legs to make him fall over all the time?  ;-)

Marco Borrillo (MarcoHere) addresses Robert:

I definitely prefer the full-match format than breaking it up.  Back in the day you had 20 videos just to finish one match.  It was a mess to keep track of in the hard drive, and also just a pain in the rear to watch a whole match.

However, I understand that not everyone has a fast connection or a powerful computer.

MarcoHere addresses 0shea:

We talk about "2000" all the time.  Go and watch Simon Potaychuk vs. Pano Dok.  Both of these players are solidly playing above 2000.  Notice that they have great control and great mental games.  There are no obvious ridiculous weaknesses (relatively speaking).  They attack and defend with consistency, purpose, and direction.

This is the level that most people are trying to attain.  Most people can make a good shot now and then but they miss a lot too.  Most people stand at the table and spray balls all over the place but don't really have a plan.  They are not really setting up a good kill or moving their opponent around.  They are just reacting in a confused and nervous state.

They say it takes about 4 years on average of hard work with proper coaching to attain 2000.  But I still haven't gotten there after 17 years.

>>I believe it was Larry Hodges who said it takes on average about 4 years for their well-coached juniors to reach 2000.<<

Marco had previously written in another thread
>>Is the above scenario disrespectful? I just want people who talk out their butts to prove what they say.<<

For you, historically the most butt-talking-out-of individual to ever enter this forum, to type this last little quip was very humorous to me. That is the reason I asked where you heard that. Normally, when someone starts a sentence with "They say," it is because they are being purposefully vague and/or don't know what they're talking about.

It also strikes me funny that you quote Larry as the source of that knowledge. For years, he asked you to prove what you 'talked out of your butt' and you cried that he had too much time on his hands and threw all sorts of other ridiculous insults his way. You also seemed irritated every time he would point out the many factual errors you made or where you were mistaken, just plain wrong, or posted without thinking.

Usually when someone makes claims about the time it *should* take a person to reach a certain level, it's to either tear someone down, or justify something to themselves. I don't know the average time it should take players to reach 2000 and I'm not quite sure it is of any importance anyway.
