Can anyone comment on why Barney was able to beat Han 4-0?  Does Han always lose to Barney?  Is it a matter of style?  I thought Han was playing well this tourney, but he didn't look too good against Barney here.

That was a pretty sick point at 10-2.

Han ripped the ball around the net up the line, just barely hitting the corner of the table but Barney was there.

I think I'm stating to see why Han lost.  He is playing patterns.  He seems to not look at the opponent before he makes his shot.  He seems to be using patterns that might be good against a righty, but not against a lefty (for example, he keeps making strong loops into Barney's forehand).  Also, I don't see any sidespin when Han goes cross court.  It just goes right into the corner, right into Barney's waiting backhand block.  The one and only time that Han went to Barney's middle he got the point.  (This was at 3:12, actually it was just a push off of serve return.)

I'm not sure what specific advice to give to Han at this moment, but in general he needs to hit a bit slower and with a bit more placement; in general he should incorporate some sidespin into his forehand cross court, just as his coach does, and of course watch his opponent more.  Right now he hits very hard and quick off the bounce but still it is a bit predictable  Seems to be almost always the same speed and spin too- just full blast.

I'm really a bit surprised that Han doesn't have more of Cheng's ball placement and patience.  Maybe Cheng (and Lupy) make it look easy.  Oh well..   I mean, from where I'm sitting it seems that with just a few minor adjustments that Han can be 2700.  But I know it's always easier said than done.

I think the "swinging for the fences" thing doesn't work very well after 2400.  But anyway, Barney played well.

Marco
